Legacy and Memorial Work
There are many ways for children and family members to commemorate a child’s legacy during the child’s illness as well as after his or her death. These may include:
- Taking personal or professional photographs and/or video images. An example of this is: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/
- Creating scrapbooks, keeping journals or diaries
- Making a baby book: http://www.foreverheart.ca/home
- Developing blogs or other online journals
- Making footprints with ink or molds of hands/feet
- Collecting and keepsaking cards, sibling’s notes, clothing, a favourite toy, poem or story
- Having children create their own “will”
- Funerals and memorials
- Continuing to talk about the child after she or he has died as a family
- Continuing to celebrate birthdays
